Pamukkale in Denizli, Turkey

The hot springs of Pamukkale, located in southwestern Turkey, are thousands of years old. The 17 cascading waterfalls flow into one another to create a panorama of gleaming white terraces formed by the calcium that cools on the hillside. This white limestone is known as travertine. And when you see it for yourself, the name Pamukkale – literally translated as “cotton castle” – makes so much sense. Next door, you can soak in the Sacred Pool, floating in crystal clear yet lusciously warm waters amidst ruins of Greek and Roman columns.

Take a peek at this otherworldly natural site.

The Caldeira Velha Hot Springs, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores – Portuguese islands in the North Atlantic halfway between North America and Europe – are located amidst a beautifully lush natural environment of massive ferns and towering trees. The three active volcanoes on the island serve as the heat source for the hot springs. The nearby town of Furnas is filled with quaint, picturesque buildings and narrow streets, a great place to discover and stay at while visiting the hot springs.
